Privacy Policy

Camping Explorer (“we”, “us”, or “our”) is a mobile application and supporting API that helps people discover camping sites, view listings on a map, request directions, save favourites, leave ratings and comments, and suggest new sites.

This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use the Camping Explorer app and related services, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using Camping Explorer, you agree to this policy.

Account information. If you create an account, we collect your name, email address, and a password.

Camping activity. When you use signed-in features we may store favourites, ratings, comments, site suggestions (including names, locations, coordinates, descriptions, and photos you upload), deletion requests for your suggestions, and feedback messages you send us.

Location information. With your permission, the app may access your device location to show where you are on the map, estimate nearby sites, and generate turn-by-turn style routes to a campsite. You can deny or revoke location permission in your device settings; Map and Explore still work for browsing published sites.

Photos and media. If you upload images for a site suggestion or related feature, those files are processed and stored through our image hosting provider so they can be shown in the app and admin tools.

Provide core features: browse camping sites, search, map markers, directions, favourites, comments, ratings, and site submissions.

Review and publish community site suggestions, and respond to feedback or support requests.

Maintain, secure, and improve the app and API, including diagnosing outages and preventing abuse.

We do not sell your personal information.

Public content. Information you choose to share publicly in the product — such as campsite reviews, display names on comments, or published site suggestions — may be visible to other users.

Legal requirements. We may disclose information if required by law, regulation, legal process, or to protect the rights, safety, and integrity of Camping Explorer and its users.

The map experience uses OpenStreetMap-based tiles and related mapping libraries. Directions may be calculated using routing services such as OSRM. Those services may receive approximate location or route coordinates needed to draw a path.

We do not control the privacy practices of independent map or routing providers. Their own policies apply to data they process.

We keep account and activity data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service.

You can permanently delete your account in the Camping Explorer app (More → Account → Delete account) by typing “delete account” to confirm. Step-by-step instructions are also published at /account-deletion on this website.

When you delete your account we remove your profile credentials, favourites, ratings and comments, pending site suggestions, pending site deletion requests, and active sessions. Published community content that has become part of the public catalogue may remain with personal identifiers cleared or anonymised. Feedback you already sent may be retained without a user link. Some information may remain in backups or logs for a limited period, or where we must retain it for security, dispute resolution, or legal compliance.

We use industry-standard safeguards appropriate to our service, including password hashing, authenticated API access, and token-based sessions. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Please choose a strong password and keep your login credentials confidential.

Camping Explorer is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.

You can browse many parts of the app without creating an account.

You can control location and photo permissions through your device settings.

You can update or remove favourites and reviews while signed in, and you can stop using the app at any time.

You can delete your account from More → Account → Delete account in the app, or follow the instructions on our Account deletion page. Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to access, correct, or delete personal data we hold about you. To exercise those rights, email us at the address below.

Camping Explorer may be accessed from different countries. Your information may be processed in locations where we or our service providers operate. By using the app, you understand that your information may be transferred to and processed in those locations.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date on this page. Continued use of Camping Explorer after changes become effective means you accept the updated policy.
